A 73-year-old IT company has joined forces with a relative newcomer to produce a new enterprise video-streaming appliance.
Three-year-old Watchitoo, which provides interactive software as a service- (Saas-) based professional high-definition video collaboration and streaming IT, announced last week that it has partnered with Hewlett-Packard for the video collaboration package. HP is contributing its ProLiant DL380 G7 Server to serve as the hardware.
The 2U-size server includes HP’s Insight Control management software and 2-socket Intel Xeon processors.
New York-based Watchitoo provides a real-time social collaboration platform that it claims can be embedded by anyone into a Website. Equipped with patent-pending multi-streaming IT, the service allows a group of users to connect, share any type of media, see one another, talk and chat in real-time using nothing more than a Web browser.
The group can gather around any form of rich media (such as PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, documents, photos and high-definition video clips). The live multi-streaming platform allows up to 25 participants to communicate via a Webcam in real time while a passive audience of thousands can view the session online.
Watchitoo’s feature set includes Twitter and Facebook integration, recording, screen-sharing and white-boarding among others. Watchitoo also enables instant polling, texting, and tweeting between all the participants for sales meetings, training, and corporate events.
The new Watchitoo-HP Appliance, preconfigured with the Web service, includes the following components:
- Watchitoo Head Center: Allows for storage, streaming content, processing and analytics.
- Watchitoo Accelerator: Increases the scalability of the output video feed and adds the ability to stream the composite video to computers and mobile devices alike.
- Watchitoo Satellite: Enables the Watchitoo platform to quickly load in users’ browsers, and media content loads faster. The local satellite communicates with the Watchitoo data center in New York to securely store and retrieve content and frequently used files.
- Watchitoo Recording Server: This is a designated server that records all of the footage from a Watchitoo show. Recorded video is available for download, editing or on-demand playback.
JP Morgan Chase currently is using Watchitoo for HR training, the company said. Watchitoo has streamed Stylecaster fashion shows during Fashion Week, the NBA town hall on Christmas Day and TedXBigApple talks in New York City. It is also the IT embedded inside the “The Insider’s” live chat via its Facebook page.
