Oracle is investing in Prolexy, a biotechnology firm it cofounded with Hitachi, amongst others, in 2001. The fit is good, not only because Oracle CEO Larry Ellison has a personal interest in biotech, but also because Oracles technology is well-suited to the industry. For example, Oracles BLAST (basic local alignment search tool) is used to search for inter-species similarities in DNA sequences.
