Database automation software provider GridApp Systems has released a new product aimed at reducing errors and bringing consistency to database processes for IT professionals.
Clarity 3.5 features enhanced patch management, an extensible CMDB (configuration management database), actionable reports, customized workflow management and broader support for newer database versions. Clarity automates tasks such as auditing, patching, provisioning and configuration management to save customers time and work, company officials said.
“Claritys ability to manage change and configurations across the database landscape is critical to creating a truly flexible and agile infrastructure,” said Mark Bowker, an analyst with Enterprise Strategy Group, in a statement. “By enabling DBAs to effectively control the deployment, management and scaling of the database infrastructure, organizations can guarantee consistency across their environment, and allow for the rapid deployment of new databases and applications. The end result is better control, improved manageability, and significant time and cost savings.”
Enhanced patch management allows Clarity 3.5 to quickly auto-detect unpatched database servers and reduces the time to apply each patch, company officials said. It also enables patch policy creation and user-defined patch deployments to improve security across the entire database infrastructure.
In addition, the release features customizable workflow management, allowing customers to build custom scripts that are integrated into the provisioning and patching process.
Clarity 3.5 also enables administrators to create reports for any information and activities in the CMDB, and supports 64-bit Oracle on Linux and HP-UX 11.23 for Itanium. Plus, it features enhanced support for Oracle Single Instance; Oracle RAC database versions 9i, 10gR1 and 10gR2; and SQL Server 2000 and 2005.
“The release of Clarity 3.5 introduces a deeper level of customization and support, bringing standardization and consistency across decentralized business units,” said Matthew Zito, chief scientist at New York-based GridApp Systems, in a statement. “Regardless of your platform, Clarity 3.5 dramatically improves database reliability and promotes collaboration to deliver cost-efficiency in an area of IT commonly overlooked by most CIOs.”
