Actuate announced Sept. 1 the expansion of its ongoing relationship with Red Hat around the JBoss middleware portfolio.

Under the agreement announced at the co-located Red Hat Summit and JBoss World conferences in Chicago, Actuate and Red Hat announced:

“Red Hat has become part of Actuate’s BIRT [Business Intelligence and Reporting Tools] Global Partner Connection and Actuate has become an advanced level member of the JBoss Certified ISV Partner Program. In addition, Actuate and BIRT Exchange (www.birt-exchange.com), a community site for Eclipse BIRT and Actuate BIRT developers, are sponsoring, exhibiting and speaking at JBoss World in Chicago, September 1-4, where they will showcase the BIRT integration capabilities available to JBoss developers. The Actuate BIRT Global Partner Connection provides JBoss Enterprise Middleware customers [with] access to a growing network of collaborating businesses and a flourishing developer community with BIRT knowledge, experiences and skills. This alliance gives Red Hat access to BIRT expertise and the value-add BIRT products and services from Actuate, including technical support, and sales and marketing resources to drive revenue growth and customer successes. The alliance will most directly assist users of the JBoss Enterprise Application Platform. The integration enables developers to accelerate deployment of BIRT reports within various applications and provides for data source access. The partnership builds on earlier community-level contributions made by BIRT developers to the JBoss Tools 3.0 project. This is one of the most frequently downloaded open source projects within the JBoss Community, and includes BIRT for report design and charting functionality.“

“We are pleased to join the Actuate BIRT Global Partner Connection from Actuate to increase JBoss and BIRT developer collaboration,” Craig Muzilla, vice president of middleware at Red Hat, said in a statement. “We look forward to working with Actuate and the growing BIRT community for software development to reap the full benefits of BIRT.”

      The statement continued:

“By joining the JBoss ISV Partner Program, Actuate will receive valuable software, development, marketing, and co-selling benefits that enable the company to support all Red Hat platforms-including the industry-leading Red Hat Enterprise Linux platform, the complete JBoss Enterprise Middleware solution portfolio … [and] Red Hat’s rapidly growing management platforms.“

“Our customers are interested in ways to quickly, securely and cost-effectively deploy Rich Information Applications to a broad range of users,” Nobby Akiha, senior vice president of marketing at Actuate, said in the statement. “Many organizations are taking a close look at how enterprise-class open-source middleware will help achieve these goals. By becoming a member of the JBoss Certified ISV Partner Program, we have made it simple for our customers to leverage Red Hat’s portfolio to support their efforts to certify that their applications work with JBoss Enterprise Platforms and Frameworks.”

Also at the jointly held conferences, GroundWork Open Source, a provider of commercial open-source systems and network management software, is previewing the newest version of its GroundWork Monitor software.

“GroundWork Monitor Version 6.0 is due out in mid-September. With this new release, GWOS has completely revamped the user interface, based on JBoss Portal,” the company said in a news release Sept. 1.

“It is our goal to provide our customers with the best open-source system, performance and network management software all bundled into a single package,” said GWOS CEO Peter Jackson. “At this year’s show, we are excited to share our new JBoss Portal integration and gain feedback from both the JBoss and Red Hat communities.”
