Appery.io Integrates Ionic SDK for HTML5 App Dev

Appery, the maker of Appery.io, a low-code platform for rapid development of cross device applications, announced that it is integrating Drifty’s Ionic SDK with Appery.io to enable developers to build hybrid mobile apps with the same user experience of a native application.

The Ionic SDK is an HTML5 hybrid app development SDK that empowers developers to create HTML5 hybrid apps with the performance and usability of native applications. The integration of the Ionic SDK obviates the need to build fully native apps in the enterprise.

For years, developers had to make a choice. If they wanted to create apps that worked across multiple device types, such as Android, IOS, and Windows, HTML5 or hybrid mobile apps could be deployed quickly, easily, and at a relatively low cost, but forced developers to sacrifice the user experience (UX) consumers expect.

Alternatively, native apps provided a more dynamic experience unique to the device and operating system, but were expensive and took time to build for each platform. By integrating the Ionic SDK into Appery.io, developers no longer have to compromise when creating apps for the enterprise and can build HTML5/hybrid apps on a single code base that offer a native UX across all platforms.

In addition, because of the low-code nature of the Appery.io platform, it also lowers the skills barrier, empowering a broader base of developers and business analysts to create effective and intuitive mobile applications.

“Appery has integrated Ionic into its Appery.io platform to give developers access to a powerful way to create native user experiences with HTML5 technologies,” said Max Lynch, CEO of Ionic, in a statement. “When strong companies like Appery support the web stack, we all win.”

Lynch said Appery.io, with its support for Apache Cordova, Bootstrap, AngularJS, and jQuery Mobile was already a solid choice for building hybrid and responsive web apps quickly and easily. However, Ionic makes it even stronger. Ionic is an open source SDK that supports a broad range of common mobile components, animations and designs. By adopting the Ionic SDK, Appery.io is hoping to drive HTML and hybrid apps forward in the enterprise.

“Appery, LLC has made significant strides this year to ensure that we’re providing the best possible product to the 200,000+ developers using Appery.io,” said Fima Katz, CEO of Appery LLC, in a statement. “With the integration of Ionic’s capabilities into our platform, we’ve been able to close the gap between fully native and hybrid apps so that developers don’t have to choose between speed, cost and user experience.”

Appery.io also simplifies integration with cloud services and enterprise systems, combining the simplicity of visual development with the power of JavaScript, to create cross-platform enterprise apps rapidly. This announcement comes on the heels of Appery, LLC’s recent acquisition of Verivo Software’s major assets.

In May, Appery announced Appery.io API Express to simplify integration with enterprise data systems with little to no coding. API Express exposes enterprise systems as lightweight, mobile friendly REST APIs. Using API Express, app developers can easily and securely integrate their mobile applications with any backend system within the enterprise or with any cloud service.

In June, Appery acquired major assets of Verivo Software, including revenue contracts, source code, patents, trademarks, and other intellectual property to create an enterprise mobility platform.

“We were impressed with Appery’s vision, team and their ability to support our AppStudio and Akula customers,” said Ken Abrahamsen, who was director of client services at Verivo Software and now works in the same capacity at Appery. “This is the best home for our customers.”

Appery announced that it would combine the best of Appery.io’s App Builder and Backend Services with Verivo’s enterprise connectivity and security capabilities to create a next generation enterprise mobility platform. The resulting solution will give development teams the ability to get to market quickly and will give IT and DevOps the tools they need to secure, manage, and govern their mobile portfolio.

“We joined forces to accelerate our vision of a leading mobile platform offering to create and deploy mobile and responsive web applications in the enterprise,” Katz said.

“Enterprises today are faced with a complex and fragmented choice of solutions across development tool vendors, MBaaS [Mobile Backend as a Service] players, enterprise middleware, and packaged applications,” said John Jackson, research vice president for mobile and connected platforms at IDC. “This consolidation is creating more complete platforms that will help accelerate mobile innovation in the enterprise.”
