Metrowerks Inc. has released a new version of its Java development tools aimed at the fledgling market for Java-enabled wireless devices.

CodeWarrior for Java Version 6.0, available now, supports Sun Microsystems Inc.s Java 2 Micro Edition, PersonalJava and Java 2 Standard Edition. It also supports the Mobile Information Device profile.

Developers can use the tools to create, compile, link, emulate, test and debug Java applications within a tightly integrated development environment. The tools are customizable and extensible. An open API allows developers to plug in third-party tools.

Officials with the Austin, Texas, company said CodeWarrior 6.0 permits a faster time to market and offers enhanced opportunities for collaboration.

The product is priced at $399.
