Concerto Software and Aspect Communications have agreed to merge in a $1 billion deal that would create the largest call center software company in the world.
Concerto sells call center software, including predictive dialers, automatic call distributors and work force management applications. Aspect sells work force management products, as well as various other call center applications. Aspect is currently a public company, and its shareholders will be paid $11.60 per share. The new company will be privately held.
Concerto was itself formed through a series of acquisitions and mergers over the course of the last few years. Founded in 1981 as Datavox Communications, the company renamed itself Concerto in 2002 after acquiring Cellit Technologies. Concerto then acquired four other companies in 2004: Melita International, CenterForce Technologies, Positive Software Systems and Rockwell FirstPoint Contact.
