1Gaming Apps With 2D, 3D Graphics
Full hardware-accelerated rendering for 2D and 3D graphics enables 1,000 times faster rendering performance over Flash Player 10 and AIR 2, Adobe says. Developers can animate millions of objects with smooth 60 frames-per-second rendering and deliver console-quality games on Mac OS, Windows and Web-connected televisions. A pre-release brings these accelerated 2D and 3D capabilities to mobile platforms, including Android, Apple iOS and BlackBerry Tablet OS. A production release for mobile platforms is expected soon.
2Streamline App Development, Deployment
With support for thousands of highly-optimized, open-source libraries, developers can tap into software and hardware capabilities, including access to device data, vibration control, magnetometers, light sensors, dual screens and near-field communications. Native extensions also allow developers to more deeply integrate AIR applications with other business software. Also, developers can automatically package AIR 3 with their application to simplify the installation process on Android, Windows and Mac OS and iOS. With the captive runtime option, developers can manage version updates to their application independent of general AIR updates by Adobe.
3Benefits for Media Apps
Premium video content can now be protected using Adobe Flash Access 3 across all supported platforms, including mobile platforms. HD video quality can be delivered across platforms, with full frame rate videos displayed within Flash-based applications on Apple iOS devices using H.264 decoding. Rich applications on televisions are also able to deliver HD video with 7.1 channel surround sound.
4Data-Driven Apps With Back-End Systems
Developers can leverage thousands of open-source libraries to more deeply integrate business software such as Microsoft Excel and Outlook into their applications. They can build advanced dashboards to visualize large datasets and set up apps to integrate with back-end systems such as sales force automation and social CRM. Developers also can build more secure apps that leverage cryptographically secure random number generation, and ensure a more smooth browsing experience via native support for 64-bit OSes and Web browsers on Linux, Mac OS and Windows.
5Delta Strike Developers Take Game to a New Level With New 3D APIs in Adobe Flash Player 11
In Delta Strike from Pro 3 Games, players put their flying skills to the test in an effort to destroy enemy spacecraft in a futuristic setting featuring rich, intergalactic 3D action, realistic graphics and enhanced sound effects, all created with Adobe Flash Platform solutions. New APIs in Adobe Flash Player 11 let Delta Strike developers take the game to a new level by rapidly generating 3D graphics such as spacecraft, animations, and backgrounds. With Adobe solutions, Delta Strike developers created a demo version of the game in just six days and a high-performance, console-quality 3D version in just three months. The 3D APIs make it possible to rapidly develop and deliver stable, sophisticated 3D experiences across virtually every online computer. Casual gamers can instantly launch the 3D game without downloading additional plug-ins, enabling Pro 3 Games to reach the broadest audience possible. Also, the dynamic games keep existing players engaged while appealing to new players in the competitive online gaming market.
6Tanki Online Developers
Created by AlternativaPlatform, Tanki Online is a free 3D-action multiplayer game available for Internet-connected desktops. More than 4 million people worldwide fight on the virtual battlefield and—hopefully—maneuver their tanks to victory. Game engineers used the Adobe Flash Platform to create hardware-accelerated graphics that offer 3D elements with differing geometry and levels of detail such as opacity, glossiness and other effects, creating an environment reminiscent of games on game consoles. With new 3D APIs in Adobe Flash Player 11, developers can program shaders for displaying models, set unique parameters to surfaces, and use graphics processing unit power to calculate animation math for better 3D games and applications.
7Gamegoo
Gamegoo creates Web-based, role-playing games that feature a world of monsters, magic, and mystery. The company adopted the Adobe Flash Platform to replace its JavaScript system as the foundation for revamping and developing games. With Adobe solutions, Gamegoo offers an intuitive, reliable, and efficient platform for rapidly developing interactive role-playing games. The companys transition to Adobe solutions led to games with high-quality character movement, renderings, and 3D game action unsurpassed in quality and interactivity. For example, since its launch, Qi-Xiong Hegemony has become one of the top seven online games in China.
8Frima
Since its inception in 2003, Frima has served clients including Electronic Arts, Warner Brothers and Nickelodeon. Known for producing high-caliber multiplatform and Flash games, Frima now enables 3D Flash gaming in the browser. Frima is leveraging the new 3D technology found in Adobe Flash Player to enable the firm to extend its 3D Zombie Tycoon game from the console to a wider range of devices. All developers can now create advanced 3D experiences like the ones in Zombie Tycoon within the browser using Adobe Flash Platform tools, enabling developers to create games on desktops, tablets and mobile devices.
9Flash Adoption Grows Exponentially
By the end of 2011, 130 smartphones and 85 tablets will run Flash-based apps, including iPhone and iPad (via Adobe AIR), growing from more than 200 million devices to more than 1 billion by end of 2015. In addition, 98 percent of Internet-connected desktops have Flash Player installed, and Flash Player 11 beta was downloaded more than 1 million times in the first week of its availability. More than 70 percent of casual games on the Web are based on Flash, and there are thousands of Flash-based apps on iTunes, Android Market and BlackBerry App World, Adobe says.
