HP and TurnKey Solutions have announced an agreement to deliver automated testing frameworks for enterprises.
In a blog post, Matthew Morgan, vice president of product marketing for HP Software, said HP and TurnKey Solutions will deliver automated testing frameworks for enterprise applications via three core components: Business Process Test (BPT) Accelerators, cFactory and docEngine.
With the growing adoption of mobile and cloud computing as well as Agile methods, which promise faster delivery of new functionality, enterprises are being asked to deliver new software updates to their end users at a higher velocity with constrained resources, Morgan said. When looking at packaged applications from a testing perspective, the industry standard practice for delivering software updates faster has been to expand the number of manual testers.
Indeed, manual testers for large enterprise software systems can range into the hundreds, HP said. However, automation can help drastically reduce this number while decreasing resource costs, Morgan said.
There is increasing pressure on application teams to deliver value, and thus the use of Agile development is up across the board, Subbu Iyer, HP Softwares vice president of products and strategy for applications, told eWEEK. One thing that has hampered enterprise projects is the volume of changes that come through that need to be tested. That typically requires putting more labor to work and adding testers. With this announcement were trying to help enterprises by providing more automation to increase value and reduce cost.”
The BPT Accelerators deliver pre-created test frameworks consisting of automated business process tests and automated business process components, Morgan said. These tests and components are specific to HP application lifecycle management (ALM) and HP Quality Center implementations for HP business process testing software and are integrated into HP ALM and HP Quality Center for use in testing scenarios. These accelerators combine ready-to-use tests and components to enable clients to quickly test popular packaged applications like Oracle E-Business Suite, SAP and PeopleSoft, he said.
cFactory addresses a variety of testing needs for both packaged and custom applications. cFactory analyzes an application’s screens, forms and objects, and determines the regions that can be tested automatically. It then creates HP BPT components that are populated in HP ALM or HP Quality center and can be quickly combined and used to create, schedule and execute automated tests, Morgan said. cFactory supports test framework creation for popular applications and platforms such as Oracle, SAP, .NET and Java.
Meanwhile, docEngine is a multi-source reporting technology for monitoring project quality. It includes a standard library of most commonly requested testing reports and enables the quick generation of custom reports to address different scenarios, Morgan said.
Iyer said this announcement comes out of a longstanding partnership with TurnKey. The automated testing solutions extend that partnership and enhance the total value for users of HP quality and ALM solutions, Morgan added. The TurnKey products are built on top of HP ALM and HP Quality Center, and the BPT components are implemented with scripts created by HP Unified Functional Testingpreviously known as HP Quick Test Professional (QTP), Morgan said.
BPT Accelerators, cFactory and docEngine will be available soon through HP Direct Sales, HP channel partners and HP Services.
