Microsoft has released a new software development kit, Microsoft SDK for Facebook Platform, to provide developers with a way to quickly and easily make use of the various features of the Facebook Platform through the Facebook Stream API with a wide range of samples, controls and templates.
In a post on the Silverlight Team Blog Nov. 9, Microsoft said: "This SDK combines the power of Web, client and social technologies to enable millions of developers to transform their imagination into next-generation application experiences. "
The post continued, "Since 2007, Microsoft has been working to provide developers with the option to quickly and efficiently build Facebook applications" in Silverlight and WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation). At Facebook's Technology Tasting Event in April, Microsoft "demoed two applications that showcased the ease of viewing photos [on Facebook] with an application built in Silverlight and .NET." With the release of this SDK, Microsoft looks forward to seeing how developers harness the power of the Web and Facebook to create new ways for users to share information and stay connected online, Microsoft officials said.
In the post, Microsoft also said:
""No matter what your application flavor is, the Microsoft SDK for Facebook Platform supports the development of applications across Silverlight, WPF, ASP.NET, ASP.NET MVC, and Windows Forms, enabling easy consumption of Facebook services delivered through the Facebook Open Stream API.""
