Oracle has released a new version of Oracle Application Express to help developers build, deploy and manage secure Web applications.
Oracle Application Express 3.0 offers several new application design, migration, reporting, security and Web services to users. The enhancements include PDF printing and Microsoft Access Migration support. Oracle Application Express is integrated with all editions of Oracle Database 10g and Oracle9i Database Release 2, and enables users to develop secure Web applications to run inside their Oracle Database, company officials said.
“Were committed to helping our customers get the most out of data stored in their Oracle Database,” said Mike Hichwa, Oracles vice president of Software Development, in a statement. “With PDF printing, flash charting and improved support for Web services, Oracle Application Express Release 3.0 offers compelling new functionality. Weve also taken a major step forward in helping customers migrate their data off of their desktops and consolidate it in an Oracle Database where it can be reliably managed and secured.”
Oracle Application Express 3.0 is the latest reincarnation of HTML DB, which debuted in 2004. A free, browser-based tool, the latest version of Application Express features Flash Chart integration, which allows users to build interactive charts directly into Web applications, Oracle officials said. In addition, the PDF file-printing feature allows users to export a report region to PDF files, Microsoft Word, Excel or HTML, company officials said.
Nick Intintolo, director of Strategic Programs at Mythics Inc., credited Application Express to contributing to his companys success. Mythics Inc. is one of the largest Oracle VARs (Value Added Resellers) in the world, and provides Oracle-based tools to thousands of customers in government, general business, health care and education.
“Our goal was to create a foundation application from which a marketplace of tools could grow,” Intintolo said in a statement. “Oracle Application Express has directly contributed to our success and provides the means to engineer our technology quickly and efficiently.”
The new release also supports Oracle Application Express packaged applications available for free download on the Oracle Technology Network, such as “Ask the Expert” and Bug Tracker.
