Homing in on the growing demand for an open development platform, software maker RealMethods has announced a stand-alone framework for J2EE.

The RealMethods Framework is designed to enable companies to invest in Java 2 Enterprise Edition development without having to have the skills needed to build the infrastructure.

It includes a set of core J2EE services and components that provide developers with the design patterns to start application development. A Java applet is used to generate an applications business and integration tier components, said officials with the Bridgewater, Mass., company.

It is available Dec. 15 starting at $2,495.
