Progress Software this week delivered the latest release of its Telerik DevCraft suite, a .NET toolbox for Web, mobile and desktop development that introduces support for AngularJS 2, the popular JavaScript development framework.

Developed by Google and refined with the help of the community, Angular 2 delivers enhancements to help developers produce highly responsive Web apps for a variety of platforms. Telerik, a Progress company, claims to be the first to market with a UI for Angular 2—also known as AngularJS 2.

Indeed, Telerik has worked closely with Google to be one of the first organizations to support the latest advancements in AngularJS. Its new release, Telerik Kendo UI, part of the Telerik DevCraft suite, now supports both AngularJS 1.x and AngularJS 2 Preview and is working toward support for AngularJS 2 Beta. Early adopters of AngularJS 2 can use Telerik Kendo UI to build responsive Web apps on top of the AngularJS 2 Preview.

“We have continued to iterate and extend our most successful products to meet market demand for supporting new web platforms, and we’re proud to be among the first to support AngularJS 2,” said Marina Hristova, vice president of product marketing and management for Telerik DevTools at Progress, in a statement. “Our DevCraft offering extends beyond AngularJS 2 to include the full breadth of HTML5 and JavaScript, and all .NET platforms. All our tools speed application development via intuitive APIs making Telerik DevCraft a complete developer solution.”

With the Telerik Kendo UI, UI for ASP.NET MVC and UI for ASP.NET AJAX products, Telerik offers a variety of advanced responsive Web UI solutions. Moreover, the company has all the popular Web platforms covered —HTML5, Web Forms, MVC, PHP and JSP.

The new release extends those capabilities with improved responsive Web behaviors, new responsive demos, and enhanced mobile rendering and gesture support. In addition, the Telerik Web UI tools in the Telerik DevCraft suite enable developers to quickly and easily produce responsive, touch-friendly Web apps using new productivity improvements. These include new Visual Studio app templates and improved Smart Tags in the UI for ASP.NET AJAX.

Additional new features in the latest version of Telerik DevCraft include the Telerik UI for Universal Windows Platform for Windows 10 tool, which supports the latest Microsoft platform for cross-device app development. It has more than 20 controls, including Grid, ListView, AutoCompleteTextView and SideDrawer.

The new release also features Telerik Report Server report sharing, integration with the Progress OpenEdge application and improved scheduling capabilities. Developers working on business apps can deploy Report Server and distribute precalculated reports to business owners with just a few mouse clicks. In addition, reports can be embedded in any .NET application directly from the Report Server.

There are also new mobile UI tool advancements, including a new AutoComplete TestView in UI for iOS and enhancements to ListView and DataForm for UI for Android, Progress said.

Last month, Progress released the latest version of the Telerik Platform, its mobile app development platform for iOS, Android and Windows Phone applications. With Telerik Platform 2.0, Progress enables developers to create mobile user experiences with high productivity in a fraction of the time.

Telerik Platform gives developers access to the full app development life cycle from a single interface. Developers are able to develop, connect, test, deploy and measure the app from that single unified interface. They also can integrate cloud services such as push notifications and analytics into the application development process. In addition, Progress brings this integration to the API layer, providing developers with a single app ID that works across all services and SDKs integrated with the application.

For enterprise developers who want the ability to include cloud builds in their existing continuous integration (CI) workflow, Telerik Platform 2.0 includes a beta version of CI build support with a Jenkins plug-in.

“Telerik Platform provides a bridge to mobile development for experienced web developers,” said Greg Wiers, IT application development manager at Cianbro, in a statement. “It’s a unified mobile development solution that offers a superior development experience compared to existing development tools.”

Telerik Platform 2.0 also features the latest updates to NativeScript, a framework that enables developers to create native apps with JavaScript and CSS. As part this release, Progress launched the Verified Plugins Marketplace for NativeScript, adding to its list of open-source plug-ins for Cordova/PhoneGap, further extending cross-platform development support for JavaScript developers.

In addition, Progress enabled support for iOS 9, Android 6 (M) and Apple Watch apps in its cloud build services. Developers can build, test and debug these apps using Telerik Platform and its expanded debugging capabilities in Visual Studio—along with a redesigned set of Companion Apps.

“The need for synergy between tools and services that support multiple devices, operating systems and business models has never been higher,” said Brandon Satrom, general manager for Developer Platforms and Tools at Progress, in a statement.
