Siebel Systems Inc. on Thursday announced that 20 industry-specific versions of its Siebel 7 suite of e-business applications are now shipping, 30 days after Siebel 7 first shipped.

These include applications for seven new vertical industries: wireless communications, media, oil and gas, medical products, chemicals, retail, and travel and hospitality. Other verticals covered include financial services (institutional, retail, insurance, health care), communications (wireline), energy (utility), life sciences (pharmaceuticals, clinical), consumer (consumer goods, apparel and footwear), industrial (high technology, automotive) and public sector.

Each of the Siebel 7 Industry Applications is tailored to the specific business requirements of that industry, including business processes, best practices and analytics. Siebel officials said this reduces the need for customization and additional development once the applications are installed.

The Siebel 7 Industry Applications add industry-specific data model extensions, segment-specific functionality and business processes and industry-specific integration kits to the underlying Siebel technology.

Siebel, of San Mateo, Calif., has long been known for having the most vertical-specific versions of its software. This release is the fourth generation of the Siebel Industry Applications, officials said. It covers both the companys customer relationship management and employee relationship management applications.
