Typemock Offers Free Alternative to Open-Source Unit-Testing Tools

Typemock, a provider of unit-testing solutions, has announced a free mocking and unit-testing alternative to open-source and other free mocking tools.

The company is offering a “basic” version of its core unit-testing solution free. Typemock Isolator Basic includes many of the most useful unit-testing components available based in its leading enterprise tools at no cost.

Typemock officials said many developers are still looking for the right unit-testing tools at no upfront cost, opting for open-source or other free software. However, most available open-source tools are either outdated, have not been maintained in years, or have a difficult API and high learning curve, the company said. Additionally, no open-source tool runs only affected unit tests and lets developers pinpoint the location of software bugs, and easily see how much of their code is covered.

As a company focused primarily on unit testing and Test Driven Development (TDD), Typemock brings the knowledge and expertise in its enterprise tools and latest technology to every developer. Typemock Isolator Basic users also benefit from Typemock’s strong unit-testing discussion and support community.

“We are committed to promoting unit testing and wanted to give all developers the best unit-testing tools,” said Eli Lopian, founder and CEO of Typemock, in a statement. “Typemock Isolator Basic is completely free. There are no strings attached—you don’t even have to register on the Website to get it. Individual developers look for the best software at the lowest entry price and usually find that open-source unit-testing tools meet their basic needs. While open-source projects can meet basic unit-testing needs, many of the most common mocking frameworks have not been updated in months or even years, and offer limited functionality. Typemock Isolator Basic is the only free unit-testing tool that offers not just a mocking framework, but a complete unit-testing tool suite.”

Typemock Isolator Basic includes many of the core features also available in Isolator’s paid solutions. This includes their SmartRunner, which runs relevant unit tests after each build and pinpoints errors; and visual code coverage, which shows where your code is covered and what still needs to be tested. Developers will also be able to mock interfaces and abstract classes and enjoy features that eliminate the need for unit-testing maintenance.

The Isolator tool family enables easy unit testing of any .NET or C/C++ code, including legacy code and unwritten code.
