Mobile enterprise file sharing and collaboration provider Accellion has added a new cloud-based information governance and security enhancements package to its Kiteworks content platform.

Palo Alto, Calif.-based Accellion, founded in 1999, is well-established, with more than 12 million users and 2,000 of the world’s leading corporations and government agencies as customers. Up until Aug. 6, when it released the new Governance option, it focused most of its business on file sharing and collaboration functions.

Due to the confluence of the overall massive data influx and the increasing pressure on organizations from regulatory agencies at numerous levels, mitigating risk and showing compliance with industry regulations is increasingly important to corporate board members. Accellion’s software is aimed squarely at these issues—the type that keep corporate executives up at night.

“Enterprise organizations are looking to IT to deliver enhanced corporate oversight and control by providing the necessary tools to manage, preserve and protect information and satisfy strict legal and regulatory requirements,” Vidhya Ranaganathan, Accellion Senior Vice-President for Products, told eWEEK. “That’s where Accellion comes in.”

Accellion’s platform also provides IT departments with control and visibility of enterprise content sharing for compliance with government and industry regulations such as HIPAA, as well as full audit and reporting capabilities for all content stored and shared via cloud content repositories, including granular logging of user login, sharing and file/folder activities.

The Kiteworks Governance package is designed to assist enterprise organizations in demonstrating compliance with legal and regulatory demands.

Key capabilities include:

eDiscovery: Enables enterprise organizations to comply with legal requests for discovery by collecting relevant documents and metadata, archiving all relevant content, retaining auditable logs, and enabling easy export of content tagged for eDiscovery to legal teams.

DLP integration: Provides for high levels of governance and compliance by monitoring all shared documents based on corporate policy and quarantining any documents containing sensitive data to prevent data leakage. Integrates with leading DLP solutions including Symantec, WebSense, Code Green, Fidelis, RSA, and others.

User-friendly DRM: Prevents file downloads with view-only roles and deters unauthorized forwarding and printing via watermarking. Allows withdrawal of files even after they are sent.

Policy-based Content Retention: Enforces corporate-defined content retention policies to ensure appropriate preservation and deletion of documents.
