Online enterprise application provider Akamai Technologies announced June 29 that it is partnering with Dubai-based KIT Digital, a maker of IP-based video management software, to deliver streaming video on a new platform that will move content across multiple mediums, including online, mobile networks and IPTV-enabled set-top boxes.
The new platform, expected to be released later this year, will include a content management system for managing large amounts of text, documents, images, audio and video.
Elements of the platform can be integrated with other existing content management systems through advanced application programming interfaces that include a number of prebuilt, modular extensions.
As part of the new global partnership agreement, KIT VX now integrates with Akamai IP-Video solutions, providing IP-based content management, storage and delivery that can be accessed from a laptop or handheld device.
According to the agreement, Akamai will become the main CDN provider for KIT Digital, which will package and resell Akamai’s services to its global customers, most of whom are in the Middle East.
Other key points in the new agreement include:
- KIT Digital will package and resell Akamai software with its KIT VX Video Management Platform. This will enable video delivery via online, mobile networks and IPTV-enabled set-top boxes on a more integrated and cost-effective basis, a company spokesperson said.
- For streaming and video-on-demand services, jointly served enterprise clients will receive maximized storage and bandwidth.
- Akamai will collaborate with KIT Digital to jointly market the KIT VX Video Management Platform to key Akamai enterprise customers.
Akamai’s globally distributed computing platform is estimated to power 15 percent to 20 percent of all Web traffic and optimize the transfer of digital information.
Akamai is based in Cambridge, Mass.
