Cisco is extending the reach of its IP products with a new high-end phone and more powerful features for its lower-end phones.
The Cisco IP Phone 7970G has a high-resolution, color touch-screen and support for XML, allowing the device to operate as a minibrowser for some vertical applications. Pricing has not been set, but the phone could cost as much as $995, officials said.
The device supports graphics and an Ethernet switch with in-line power as well as auto-VLAN configuration and Cisco Call Manager registration.
In addition, Cisco added XML support for a pair of its entry-level IP phones, the 7905G and 7912G. The XML support allows text-based applications to be pushed out to the devices.
The phones were unveiled last week at Ciscos Innovation Through Convergence Expo in Santa Clara, Calif. The XML support is due early next month. The 7970G will be available early in the first quarter of next year.
