Cisco Systems Inc. and Mirapoint Inc. are combining networking and messaging tools to create a unified communications product. The Cisco Mirapoint Joint UC Solution is designed to let Internet service providers implement UC services to their customers faster and more cost-effectively.

It combines Ciscos uOne software platform—which lets users read and send messages (including e-mail, voice mail and faxes) regardless of location or device—with Internet message server appliances from Mirapoint, of Sunnyvale, Calif. Those include standards-based messaging storage and delivery and access to the same in-box from traditional e-mail clients, Wireless Application Protocol-enabled devices or the Web.

The joint offering includes the AS5x00/Voice Gateway family of access server products from Cisco, of San Jose, Calif.

The product is available through systems integrator Spanlink Communications Inc., of Minneapolis. It will later be available through other integrators. Pricing depends on configuration.
