Cloud-based big data analytics provider Datameer has released Datameer Professional, which the company describes as the first big data analytics platform in the cloud targeted for department-specific deployments.
Datameer, which was the first big data platform purpose-built for Hadoop batch processing, now purports to be first to market with a big data analytics platform specifically for Hadoop-as-a-Service (HaaS).
The new cloud service, launched Feb. 10, is aimed at line-of-business users, not just IT. It contains adjunct services from Hadoop cloud providers Altiscale and Bigstep.
Altiscale offers the Altiscale Data Cloud, the only HaaS (Hadoop-as-a-service) purpose-built for high performance and elastic scalability. Bigstep is the company behind the Full Metal Cloud, a high-performance cloud built for big data.
“Analytics across big data can provide real business value throughout an organization,” said Raymie Stata, CEO of Altiscale and a former CTO of Yahoo. But he added that realizing the benefits involves overcoming the challenges of implementing and managing a high-performing, big-data environment and providing an analytics solution that is usable by a broad range of executives and business analysts.
“This is why the combination of Altiscale and Datameer is so compelling,” he said.
Datameer’s platform is used by multinational companies such as British Telecom, Citibank, Workday and Vivint to integrate, analyze and visualize their data to get new insights. Founded in 2009 by Hadoop veterans, Datameer is headquartered in San Francisco.
