Earlier this week Microsoft Corp.s Business Solutions division announced new functionality for the Microsoft Business Portal that extends Enterprise Resource Planning applications to provide more options for human resource professionals and employee self service.

The Business Solutions divisions Business Portal is a Web-based portal application for two of Business Solutions ERP products, Microsoft Great Plains and Solomon.

Enhancements in version 1.2, available now, include a new Human Resource Management Self Service Suite, a Key Performance Indicator module, and the ability to deliver reports created with Microsofts Business Solutions for Analytics-FRx software.

Business Portal 1.2 enables employees to go online and review their HR and payroll information and complete some common tasks like filling out and approving timecards, submitting requests for time off, reviewing paycheck and benefit information and changing their employee profile information.

The new KPI module brings to the table at-a-glance access to the key business metrics needed to quickly assess how well business is doing—and to take action when conditions change.

Likewise, reports created with Microsofts FRx can be delivered through the portal—providing easier access to financial and business reports.

Available as an add-on to both Great Plains and Solomon packages, Business Portal 1.2 is priced between $45 and $65 per user, based on the number of licenses purchased, officials said.
