Oracle Corp. used its AppsWorld show in Amsterdam this week to announce on Wednesday the latest upgrade to its E-Business Suite, version 11.5.6.

Chief among 11is new features is a module called Daily Business Close that allows top management to view key business facts on a daily basis. Close information includes performance metrics, financial ratios, profit and loss summaries and other indicators that roll up across all application models, according to officials of the Redwood Shores, Calif., company.

Oracle is supplementing the Daily Business Close functionality with a pre-built Enterprise Portal interface that serves as an executive dashboard – or as Oracle hopes customers will view it, an online daily newspaper about users business.

The data generated from the Daily Business Close module is continuously summarized and displayed in the Enterprise Portal and is viewable by line of business, geography, department or product.

Oracles Information Architecture – the foundation for the E-Business Suite – consolidates data from multiple sources and delivers it through the Enterprise Portal. It is this Information Architecture, according to officials, that enable Oracle to aggregate data across all apps in the suite to deliver real-time metrics.

The key component of the Information Architecture platform is its unified data model, which contains a single definition for all common application objects that are accessed by the suites application modules. As a result, for example, an accounting application will access the same information that a marketing application will, allowing the Daily Business Close to access information across systems.

Three additional products were announced today as part of the 11.5.6 upgrade. Those products include Enterprise Asset Management, Customer Online and CADView 3D.

The Enterprise Asset Management module (eAM) is designed to address the maintenance requirements of asset intensive companies by scheduling planned maintenance tasks for each piece of equipment. The plans can be adjusted dynamically and automatically.

The Oracle Customer Online offering provides an online customer repository and management system where businesses can collect, clean and enrich customer data consolidated from disparate in-house systems.

The Oracle CADView 3D application allows teams to view and markup any size CAD model online – over limited bandwidth (56K) network connections, according to officials.

The Daily Business Close module – along with the three additional offerings from Oracle –will ship with the E-Business Suite upgrade expected in the next 60 days.
