Sendmail Inc. joined forces with Hewlett-Packard Co. and Intel Corp. to announce Monday a joint offering to bring e-mail to deskless workers, mostly in the health care and manufacturing sectors.
Known as Workforce Mail, the Linux-based offering combines Sendmail e-mail software, HP Proliant servers and access devices that use the Intel Centrino chipset, so that workers such as hospital nurses, field service staff, warehouse and store managers or delivery personnel can have access to corporate e-mail systems.
Workforce Mail can be configured for internal-only use and includes anti-virus and anti-spam components, policy filters and content management capabilities.
Sendmail officials said Workforce Mail is intended to coexist with, rather than replace, other corporate e-mail systems and can integrate with them.
Pricing for Workforce Mail is approximately $8.50 per user. It is intended for sites with between 10,000 and 25,000 users.
