Toshiba America Information Systems is updating its IPedge IP business telephone system. This includes the addition of video capability into the companys Meeting audio conferencing and Web collaboration application.
The platform, aimed at small and midsize businesses (SMBs), offers a host of unified communications (UC) applications on a Linux server, including call processing, voice mail and unified messaging, meet-me conferencing with Web collaboration, Call Manager unified communications, native Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) line and trunk support, mobility, survivability and networking with either other IPedge systems or Toshibas Strata CIX systems.
Now, with built-in audio/video conferencing and Web collaboration plus survivability of the UC application, IPedge gives SMBs and multisite companies more ways to communicate efficiently, cost effectively and reliably, Brian Metherell, vice president and general manager of Toshiba America Information Systems’ telecommunication division, said in a press statement. Even small offices now have the benefit of the built-in Meeting application on Toshibas IPedge EP.
The Meeting application provides Web-based desktop sharing, Microsoft Outlook calendar integration, conferencing that allows participants to share video from the Webcam on their computers, audio recording, a conference view feature to monitor participants, and configuration for eight to 24 ports for added flexibility and scalability. Toshiba also enhanced the Enterprise Manager system administration application to provide database survivability and additional installation wizards. In the event of failure of the primary server, IPedge applications are automatically connected to a secondary server and then reconnect back to the primary server when it becomes active again.
Toshibas Meeting gives SMBs and branches of larger multisite businesses the ability to have affordable audio and video conferencing with Web collaboration capabilities on either a scheduled or on-demand basis, Mark Carpenter, vice president of technology and product management for the companys telecommunications systems division, said in prepared remarks. Having the Meeting application built into all the Toshiba business telephone system models makes it affordable for businesses of all sizes, utilizing their own cost-effective carrier services.
The upgrade targets the IPedge EM (up to 1,000 users), IPedge EC (up to 200 users), and IPedge EP (up to 40 users) models. For the IPedge EP (up to 40 users) model, the smallest version available, has been updated to include the Meeting application built into the system server. In our fast-paced business world, survivability for unified communications platforms has become a priority for users, Carpenter continued. With Call Manager and Enterprise Manager Database Survivability, users can be assured that their unified communications and administration functions will keep working even if the primary server goes down.
