      Some quick facts:

Topic: “Predictions, Sure Things and Wild Guesses for IT in 2018”

      Date/time: Dec. 13, 2017 @11a.m. PST/2 p.m. EST/7 p.m. GMT

“Predictions, Sure Things and Wild Guesses for IT in 2018”

Everybody enjoys hearing about what’s likely to happen in the future—not that anybody really knows exactly what’s going to take place, that is. Guesses—educated and wild alike—can spark interesting discussions. But it’s fun and entertaining to discuss the great things that are likely to happen, especially in the world of IT, where there’s never a dull news moment.

We may look back on some of the #eWEEKchat topics we discussed in 2017, which was a year marked by an incredible use of Twitter as a communication instrument by a U.S. president–for better or worse. We saw nation-state hacking in politics, big business and small business. We saw the rise of artificial intelligence, chatbots, fog computing and citizen development and the continued increase of cheap foreign-made phones in the smartphone business.

We also saw the usual high number of major security breakdowns, net neutrality debates, more new iPhones and the continued development of big data analytics, business intelligence, cognitive computing and robotics.

With this in mind, eWEEK is ending its fifth year of eWEEKchats (this one will be No. 62; we’ve had two special off-the-grid #eWEEKchats during the last four years) with a look ahead to 2018 and the new and different things we may expect to encounter. We will have several special guests online with us to offer their takes on all of this.

Everybody is invited: Users, non-users, analysts, vendors, other journalists, seers, non-seers–everybody.

Need some ideas? eWEEK has been running a series of “Predictions 2018” articles the last couple of weeks. Read these over before you join our party next Wednesday.

Here comes a prediction right now: We will pose questions such as:

      • What new devices, software and services might we expect to see in 2018?
      • Will we ever be able to get a handle on keeping data secure? Will we ever be able to screen out the bad human elements?
      • How will stringent new EU geographic security requirements –coming into play next May–impact data security globally?
      • Are wearable computing devices dying?
      • Could the fast development of cognitive computing turn into a serious problem?
      • Can we expect any type of improvement in online personal data privacy in 2018?

Plan to join us for what promises to be a fun and illuminating hour on Dec. 13. Get your predictions ready and lay them out for us!
