Borland Software Corp. Wednesday announced the availability of a new version of its requirements management tool, Borland CaliberRM.
David Walker, product manager for CaliberRM at the Scotts Valley, Calif., company, said CaliberRM 6.0 “brings requirements management to the masses,” with its support for inline images, rich text and embedded tables, which enable the tool to manage design documents, scenarios and use cases.
“CaliberRM is opening up opportunities and leading the charge for the overall Borland Application Lifecycle Management [ALM] suite,” Walker said.
“Essentially Borland is focused on making the discipline of getting software right easier—we are doing this across the whole application lifecycle—but a key start point for creating any software for success is how it is defined from a business objectives perspective in the first place, requirements and how these are then interpreted by the team involved in creating software,” a Borland spokesperson said. “Any disconnect results in software rework—doesnt matter if the software is produced in time—if it doesnt meet the initial objectives.”
“We are finding a broader level of maturity inside of organizations today—this is exacerbated by the need to comply with assessment frameworks such as the Software Engineering Institute Capability Maturity Model; increased industry regulation especially in the pharmaceutical sector with regulations such as the United States Food and Drug Administration; and the complexities of distributed IT teams through offshoring,” Walker said. “Requirements management is a key discipline underlying software quality and success.”
CaliberRM 6.0 helps users express changing business needs, as “requirements,” to reduce the costs of software rework, he said.
