Office workers in San Francisco have another reason to stay alert. Consumer groups are protesting against PG&E, Californias largest provider of electricity, and that has made other companies nervous.
Consumers took a dim view of PG&Es recent bankruptcy filing, figuring the utility will use it as an excuse to raise rates. And Bechtel, which is across the street from PG&E, took no chances. The company sent out a notice to workers in its building this month, suggesting that they avoid trouble and leave by the rear door. Bechtel requested additional police presence and said it was hiring two extra security guards. The note did not say why Bechtel believed it, The Gap and other “large corporations” would be targeted along with PG&E.
