Japan’s Hitachi Data Systems and U.S. storage provider CommVault, which have had a longstanding and successful partnership, on May 12 launched an upgraded storage and data protection package aimed at remote offices with virtualized systems.
Hitachi Data Protection Suite 8.0 features CommVault’s Simpana 8.0 storage software suite inside HDS hardware. Simpana 7.0 was the 2008 winner of the eWEEK Excellence Award for storage software.
Data Protection Suite 8.0 includes improvements in recovery operations, license management and remote office protection in addition to better virtual server protection, data deduplication, recovery management and content organization, HDS said.
      Key features include:

      • Virtual client support for VMware Infrastructure and Microsoft Hyper-V
      • Global embedded data deduplication: Block-level deduplication across an entire system’s backup and archive copies from disk to tape
      • Remote office protection: Provides multiple options for centralized, automated policies applied to data residing on workstations and laptops; helps facilitate compliance and search for rapid e-discovery of orphaned, backup and archived data.

HDS’ Data Protection Suite 8.0 became available on May 12. For more information, go here.
