TIBCO Software Inc. Wednesday announced it will lend a hand to Hewlett-Packard Co. to help HP deliver a Web services-based process management system to support its Adaptive Enterprise strategy.

TIBCO and HP, both based in Palo Alto, Calif., said the new Web services solution will benefit both companies customers by better enabling them to respond to changes, including changes in market conditions, or responses to system and infrastructure alerts, or business process alerts. The solution will enable users to react to changes and maintain established service levels, said Ed Zou, general manager of business integration at TIBCO.

“Our role is to jointly develop this Web services-based management solution, and weve been jointly working with them on some lighthouse customers,” Zou said.

Zou said one of the first steps under the agreement to deliver a Web services-based management capability is to extend HPs OpenView systems management platform to handle Web services management. The solution will enable users to better manage their overall IT infrastructure.

“It will allow you to optimize IT and process resources to make it best for the enterprise,” Zou said. “Like if we know a server is going down or has gone down, our engine can re-route the flow.”

Typically, alerts for infrastructure problems and business process management glitches are handled separately or by different systems, Zou said. But to pull off the plan TIBCO and HP have “three types of information needs to come together: system and network information, application information, and business process level integration.” He said HP has excelled at system and network management, while TIBCO has strengths in application integration and business process integration.

Zou said TIBCO is a driver in the Web services management standards space and that later this year HP and TIBCO will be submitting a new Web services management specification to a standards body.
