IBM announced Tuesday a new version of WebSphere Portal that adds content management and integration capabilities as well as new productivity tools.
WebSphere Portal 5.0.2 includes some Lotus Workplace Web Content Management, allowing customers to create, publish, manage and archive Web-based content within corporate intranet, extranet or Internet environments, IBM officials said.
Also new in this release is the WebSphere Portal Application Integrator tool, which extends customers ability to access enterprise applications such as Oracle Corp.s HR, finance and manufacturing applications.
IBM also added in this release capabilities to import and export Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word files, as well as IBM Lotus 1-2-3 and Lotus Freelance files.
Software companies offering services for WebSphere Portal will now be able to make them available worldwide via the WebSphere Portal Catalog. The WebSphere Portal Catalog now has more than 1,200 solutions and services to build and deploy portlets that provide access to enterprise applications through the WebSphere Portal.
New portlets and portlet builders announced as part of this release include knowledge management, collaboration, and search-and-retrieval applications. IBM also said that an another 38 software companies have agreed recently to create portlets to link their applications to WebSphere Portal, bringing the total number of companies that support WebSphere this way to more than 200.
