Global consulting firm KPMG on Aug. 29 announced the promotion of Stuart Campbell, head of the firms audit and advisory services practice, into the additional role of CIO.
KPMG chairman Mike Rake said Campbell, 53, will lead the firms global technology initiatives and sit on its international executive team. He will also continue to be involved in the leadership of KPMGs audit and advisory services center.
Campbell began his career with KPMG in its London office in 1974, later transferring to San Francisco. He left KPMG in 1990 to join Wells Fargo as an executive vice president, overseeing the banks day-to-day auditing practices.
He rejoined KPMG in 1995 and was tasked with building a new advisory business focused on helping companies manage their technology risks. That new IRM (Information Risk Management) practice became one of KPMGs fastest-growing businesses, growing from 39 consultants in 1995 to about 1,500 today, according to the company.
