F5 Networks Inc. this month will release an Internet traffic and content management product, Big-IP FIPS e-Commerce 540, with an accelerator that meets federal specifications for security.

The Secure Sockets Layer accelerator runs with the upcoming Version 4.2 of F5 Networks Big-IP software. The Seattle company said the product is the only traffic management product offering Federal Information Processing Standard certification.

FIPS-certified products achieve maximum security by blending advanced key management features with a tamper-resistant, key protection module. The key management framework makes the Big-IP solution highly scalable and eases the adding of new services and management of greater traffic volumes, company officials said.

The SSL accelerator costs $17,990. Big-IP FIPS e-Commerce 540 is a stand-alone system and is priced at $25,990.
