Visualpulse 2.0a is a useful little tool for monitoring Web site responsiveness and availability, especially for IT managers who want a basic, no-frills utility that is simple to set up and manage.

Made by Visualware Inc. and released last month for $200 on Windows systems, VisualPulse let me measure response time for eweek.com in real time and historically. It was simple to set up the tool and get reports on how well the site was performing.

Several new features in this release helped me get accurate results quickly. HTTP measurements let me see how fast text pages were formed and TCP Port measurements revealed how well applications such as FTP were performing.
