Lucent Technologies Inc.s VitalSoft unit last week unveiled major changes to two of its management software offerings, introducing VitalSuite Enterprise 8.0 and MyVitalAgent performance management tools.

In a nod to both enterprise IT and service providers, Lucent restructured the VitalSuite Enterprise software to scale to support millions of users and allow management data to be partitioned.

The performance reporting software now uses a distributed database architecture based on Extensible Markup Language and SQL to improve scalability.

The suite, made up of VitalNet 8, VitalAnalysis 8 and VitalHelp 8, is available now and starts at $53,000. The Sunnyvale, Calif., unit of Lucent also released a free version of its VitalAgent technology that allows PC users to monitor the performance of their online connections.

The MyVitalAgent technology is a next-generation implementation of the units NetMedic software, which provides users with a browser-based view into the performance of their Internet connections over technologies such as digital subscriber line, cable or dial-up.
