A PDA with GPS technology is already a welcome travel mate, and TravRoute CoPilot Live Pocket PC 4 with Bluetooth GPS ($349 direct) adds to your companions versatility. The latest version of the product gives you more control over points of interest and adds more display, waypoint, and routing options. The hottest new feature, though, is two-way communication. Configure a data-enabled digital phone to work with a PDA and CoPilot Live, and you can track individuals, send and receive text messages, and even send route or trip changes to the PDA.

We tested the CoPilot Live PDA client and GPS receiver with a Compaq iPAQ Pocket PC H3870. For its wireless data, the iPAQ linked via Bluetooth to an Ericsson T68i GSM/GPRS digital cell phone that used T-Mobiles network and t-zones data service.
