With the updated act for Palm OS, Best Software puts new functionality and better performance into its already-popular contact management application.
I installed the $80 Act for Palm OS on a Sony Clié PEG-TG50. After hot-syncing the Clié with the included Act Express, a limited version of Act for Windows, all the data Id entered in the Act Express database was available on the handheld. Pull-down menus and tools eliminated the need to handwrite meeting info and to-do items.
Act has some of the best interfaces in its class, but the handheld version was unable to take advantage of the color screen and graphics available on the Clié.
Still, Act does get the job done. Its contact database is easy to maneuver, and tracking notes and managing sales opportunities feel natural (see screen). There is no way to beam contacts from one PDA to another—something Id like to see in a future version.
