      ‘Trends in New-Gen Mobility, Apps, Devices’

      How will we soon be connecting new mobile platforms and handheld and wearable devices with the internet of things to help us do new and routine functions faster and more accurately? We’re thinking this will happen sooner than we all think.

      For one example, in the not-too-distant future we’ll be wearing augmented-reality or virtual-reality glasses that will use facial recognition software connected to the cloud to identity a person walking toward you—should you decide to utilize that function.

      That’s just one use case combining new mobile app platforms with internet of things networks. Wouldn’t it be nice to recognize an acquaintance or friend, and not remembering his or her name, be able to use such a system to refresh your memory before you actually shake hands?

      On the other hand, what’s to stop anyone from locking in on a stranger’s face and finding out he or she is a dangerous individual? Where do personal privacy laws come into play? Is a person’s face, whether in public or in private, fair game for others to search for background information?

      These are only a few of the trends and issues we will chat about Oct. 11 on #eWEEKchat. Others:

      •     new products we can expect to see this holiday season;
      •     the increasing use of machine learning and business analytics natively and through the cloud in our smartphones and other devices;
      •     new connected kitchens, family rooms, bathrooms and all other rooms in new-gen housing; and
      •     driverless vehicles, including delivery trucks and drones.

      The connected mobility trends thread into almost every corner of our lives, and this intervention is only going to increase over time.

      In this month’s #eWEEKchat, we’ll be asking the following questions:

      •     What mobility platforms and applications are you currently using at home and at work? What is working well, or not so well, for you?
      •     What new mobility functions and products would you like to see become available?
      •     What issues are you seeing—and solving—in mobile app development?

      Join us Oct. 11 at 11 a.m. Pacific/2 p.m. Eastern/7 p.m. GMT for an hour. You should expect to learn something valuable.
