Janam Technologies has bolstered its XT2 line of rugged, enterprise handheld computers by introducing a new version that runs the Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise operating system for customers who desire it.
The new Windows 10 version of the handheld devices was announced by Janam on Sept. 8, and is priced from $1,395 to $2,145. The earlier version of the smartphone-like XT2, which was unveiled in April, ran on the Android 5 Lollipop mobile operating system.
The Windows 10-equipped XT2 provides an intuitive experience for Windows users, as well as native support for barcode scanning and other peripherals. The Windows 10 devices are also fully compatible with Windows enterprise data protection policies, including device management for multiple users, VPN configuration, advanced lockdown and full device wipe capabilities, according to Janam. The devices also include native support for barcode scanning and magnetic stripe readers.
The XT2 can scan barcodes, capture images, perform Web searches, make voice phone calls and more, all from one small and portable device. The XT2 is the latest model in the company’s line of rugged business handhelds that can be used in almost any kind of physical environment and is aimed at mobile workers in field service, direct store delivery, retail, hospitality, automotive inspections, transportation and logistics, and other businesses.
The device has a 5-inch HD WVGA color touch-screen display that’s covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a Qualcomm 1.2GHz quad-core MSM8916 processor, 1GB or 2GB of memory, 8GB or 16GB of built-in storage, plus a microSD card slot for expanded storage. The device is shaped like a smartphone, rather than having the pistol-grip styles of previous Janam devices.
Built to stand up well in inhospitable work environments, the XT2 has MIL-STD 810G certification and is ruggedized to withstand multiple 5-foot drops on concrete. It also meets IP67 standards for dust resistance and immersion in up to 3 feet of water. Plus, it includes Bluetooth 4.0, near-field communications and dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi connectivity. Optional 4G capabilities are also available.
The XT2 also includes RFID reading capabilities and an integrated slim-format SE4710 1D and 2D scanning engine from Zebra Technologies, which can be used by enterprise workers to capture barcode data from more than 2 feet away. Also available is an optional magnetic stripe reader attachment.
The Janam XT2 is 6.1 inches long, 3.2 inches wide and 0.9 inches thick and weighs 9.8 ounces with its battery or 10 ounces with its battery and optional magnetic stripe reader. The device also includes high-sensitivity GPS capabilities and a built-in USB 2.0 port.
Also featured is an 8-megapixel rear-facing, color, auto-focus camera and a 2GB front-facing camera to give users the ability to capture images in the workplace in a variety of tasks. The XT2 is designed to help companies automate workflows, improve workforce productivity and enhance customer service.
The XT2 is equipped with a 3,000mAh Li-ion battery for all-day operation on a charge and can also be outfitted with an extended 4,000mAh battery as an option. Other optional accessories include a single-unit charging stand, a four-slot charger to charge four devices at once and a carrying holster.
