      Previously available only with Android 5.0 Lollipop, Janam’s latest XT2 rugged handheld computer comes with Windows 10 IoT Mobile Enterprise preloaded. Here’s a look at the device’s key features.

      The device has a 5-inch HD WVGA color touch-screen display that’s covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, a Qualcomm 1.2GHz quad-core MSM8916 processor, 1GB or 2GB of memory, 8GB or 16GB of built-in storage, plus a microSD card slot for expanded storage.

      The latest XT2 is shaped like a smartphone, rather than having the pistol-grip styles of previous Janam devices. The earlier version of the compact XT2, which made its debut in April, is still available; it runs the Android 5 Lollipop mobile operating system. The XT2 is designed to help companies automate workflows, improve workforce productivity and enhance customer service.

      The XT2 also includes RFID reading capabilities and an integrated slim-format SE4710 1D and 2D scanning engine from Zebra Technologies, which can be used by enterprise workers to capture barcode data from more than 2 feet away. Also available is an optional magnetic stripe reader attachment (pictured).

      The Janam XT2 is 6.1 inches long, 3.2 inches wide and 0.9 inches thick, and weighs 9.8 ounces with its battery or 10 ounces with its battery and optional magnetic stripe reader. The device also includes high-sensitivity GPS capabilities and a built-in USB 2.0 port.

      Also featured in the XT2 is an 8-megapixel rear-facing, color, auto-focus camera and a 2GB front-facing camera to give users the ability to capture images in the workplace in a variety of tasks. It also includes Bluetooth 4.0, Near Field Communication and dual-band 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi connectivity. Optional 4G capabilities are also available.

      The XT2 is equipped with a 3,000mAh Li-ion battery for all-day operation on a charge and can also be outfitted with an extended 4,000mAh battery as an option. Other optional accessories include a single-unit charging stand, a four-slot charger to charge four devices at once and a carrying holster.

      Like its Android version (pictured), the Janam XT2 is built to stand up well in inhospitable work environments. The devices both have MIL-STD 810G certification and are ruggedized to withstand multiple 5-foot drops on concrete. They also meet IP67 standards for dust resistance and immersion in up to 3 feet of water.
