Lenovo has unveiled three new Yoga tablet models, adding improvements and new features while for the first time including Windows versions of one of its Yoga tablets.
The company unveiled the new models—the Yoga Tablet 2 Pro, the Yoga 3 Pro and the Yoga Tablet 2—at a launch event in London on Oct. 9.
Yoga Tablet 2 Pro
The new 13-inch Yoga Tablet 2 Pro is a home entertainment platform that features a built-in Pico projector that allows users to show a movie, television show or other video content on a wall, right from the tablet, according to Lenovo. Paired with the projector is a built-in 8-watt sound system with a subwoofer for accurate sound reproduction when using the video capabilities.
The Yoga Tablet 2 Pro has a QHD 2,560-by-1,440 display, while the projector can display a 16:9 high-resolution image onto any surface to yield a 50-inch picture, according to Lenovo. The projector includes automatic image adjustment, while the tablet offers up to three hours of playback time.
The tablet also features a new “hang” mode, which lets users hang the tablet anywhere as desired. Other existing modes are “hold” for reading, “tilt” for easy online browsing and “stand” for close-up content from digital libraries, according to Lenovo.
The tablet is equipped with an Intel Atom processor; a high-resolution, 8-megapixel rear camera; 32GB of built-in storage; and up to 15 hours of battery life. Users can also get the tablet equipped with optional 4G cellular capabilities.
The new Lenovo Yoga Tablet 2 Pro will be available online from Lenovo at the end of October starting at $627.
Yoga 3 Pro
The convertible 13-inch Yoga 3 Pro gets a new watchband hinge that makes the tablet 17 percent thinner and 14 percent lighter than its predecessors, according to Lenovo.
The Yoga 3 Pro is equipped with an Intel Core M processor, up to 512GB of solid-state drive (SSD) storage, a QHD+ 3,200-by-1,800 display, integrated Intel graphics, up to nine hours of battery life, premium sound and high-speed 802.11 a/c WiFi. Also included is Harmony, software that adapts to users’ personal preferences as they use the device in its different modes. The Yoga 3 Pro, which also includes the new “hang” mode, is available in three colors—Clementine Orange, Platinum Silver and Champagne Gold.
The tablet will be available at the end of October at Best Buy and at Lenovo.com starting at about $2,009.
Yoga Tablet 2
The new Yoga Tablet 2 line offers several models for consumers to choose from, including three screen sizes and a choice of Android or Windows operating system, according to Lenovo. For the first time, Windows models are available in 8-inch and 10-inch sizes, in addition to the existing Android versions.
Included in all Yoga Tablet 2 devices are Intel Atom processors, an 8MP rear high-resolution camera, dual band speed WiFi with optional 4G, front dual speakers with Dolby audio and more. The new “hang” mode and an improved “kickstand” to hold the tablet in place are also included.
The Windows models are available in Ebony, and they include a preloaded one-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365. Optional 4G cellular capabilities are available on the 10-inch model.
Android versions running KitKat 4.4 are available in Platinum with either 8-inch or 10-inch screens. Pricing for the Android Yoga Tablet 2 is $375 for the 10-inch version or $288 for the 8-inch model. The Android devices are available immediately.
The Yoga Tablet 2 10-inch Windows model will be available in late October at Best Buy starting at $501, while the 8-inch Windows model will be available through Lenovo in November starting at $313.
The first Lenovo Yoga tablets arrived to the IT marketplace in late 2013, adding a new form factor to the tablet market, according to an earlier eWEEK report. The first Yoga tablets introduced a thin display attached to a cylinder, for a silhouette like a spiral notebook.
