LG Electronics has unveiled its Gram series of high-performance laptop computers, its first laptops that are being offered for sale in the United States.
The machines, which are named Gram to highlight their light weight in the 13-inch and 14-inch Full HD display class, were announced by the company on Sept. 28. The three models include the LG Gram 13, a 13-inch model that features an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage; the LG Gram 14, a 14-inch model that features an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory and 128GB of storage; and another LG Gram 14 model with a 14-inch display, a more powerful Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB of memory and 256GB of storage. The three machines each weigh about 2.16 pounds.
The body of each of the Gram devices is made of carbon-lithium and carbon-magnesium, making them strong and light, according to LG. Both materials are also used in spacecraft and racing cars. The LG Gram models are about a half-inch in thickness.
The LG Gram 13, which comes in white, retails for $899, while both LG Gram 14 models come in gold. The Core i5-equipped Gram 14 retails for $999, while the Core i7-equipped Gram 14 retails for $1,399.
All three machines include Microsoft Windows 10 operating systems and will be sold through Microsoft stores as well as online at Microsoftstore.com and Amazon.com. The devices are Microsoft Signature Edition laptops, which means that they are free of installed bloatware and that they come equipped with antivirus protection.
The machines also include WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity, extra ports for USB 3.0 as well as a micro-USB and a micro-SD slot. The devices each also include a built-in HDMI port and advanced sound quality through their built-in Digital-to-Analog converters (DAC), which allows users to experience hi-fi quality sound with less noise and distortion.
The Gram devices include an instant boot feature and promise battery life of up to 7.5 hours, according to LG.
All three models have Full HD displays that feature 1,920-by-1,080 resolution and 16:9 aspect ratios, as well as LG’s In-Plane Switching (IPS) technology, which ensures accurate color saturation and contrast regardless of the user’s viewing angle.
Plus, the Gram machines offer a “Reader Mode” that reduces blue light, making them easier to read for long periods of time.
“LG has a long history of developing innovative consumer electronics products and has applied that expertise, along with its laptop success in other markets, to the LG gram series in the U.S.,” David VanderWaal, vice president of marketing for LG Electronics USA, said in a statement. “We recognize this is an extremely competitive category, and are confident consumers will respond well to this product that combines powerful performance with lightweight design.”
