MapQuest GPS Service Finds Places, Friends

MapQuest's GPS-enabled Find Me service now allows users to set up personal networks to share their location with friends.

MapQuests GPS-enabled application for wireless phones, MapQuest Find Me, now allows users not only to find nearby spots such as restaurants, hotels and ATMs on their handsets but also the location of others.

With the service, which now works with Research In Motions BlackBerry 7520 handsets, users can set up personal networks to share their own location with others and to track the location of other people in their network.

Users can share location information via text messages or through a Web site. Another new feature in the service allows users to set up SMS (Short Message Service) or e-mail alerts to receive notifications if a member of their personal network arrives at or leaves from a prespecified geographic area. MapQuest Find Me Version 2.0 is available now as a download for compatible GPS-enabled handsets from Sprint Nextel.
