Motorola tightened its ties to ultrawide-band startup XtremeSpectrum, purchasing the company outright in a deal announced last week.
XtremeSpectrum is one of the companies that is working on products supporting high-data-rate personal networking wireless communications using the IEEE 802.15.3a standard. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
In other acquisition news, Hewlett-Packard announced the purchase of e-mail archiving startup Persist Technologies last week. Persist makes object-based software called AppStor. HP already is a reseller of the technology, which is due for a wide-area version this winter, officials said in July. Persist spun off in 2002 from compliance and electronic discovery company Zantaz. Its customers include the U.S. Army and E-Trade Group, officials previously said.
