NEC Solutions (America) Inc. on Monday will introduce the MobilePro 900, a high-end handheld computer for corporate customers who need something slightly larger and more powerful than a standard PDA.
The MobilePro 900 sports an XScale 400MHz processor from Intel Corp., 64MB of RAM and 32MB of Flash ROM, according to officials at the Rancho Cordova, Calif., company.
The device runs Microsoft Corp.s Handheld PC platform, which is Windows CE 3.0. It includes applications such as Pocket Word, Excel, Pocket PowerPoint and Internet Explorer.
The device is larger than most PDAs but smaller than a laptop computer at 9.69 by 5.05 by 1.19 inches.
It sports an 8.1-inch screen and includes a keyboard large enough that users dont have to type with their thumbs, officials said. It also sports a lithium ion battery that runs up to 8 hours, or 4 hours when running on a wireless network; wireless technology is not integrated in the device, but it will support add-on cards. The company also offers a supplemental but larger battery that offers twice the life of the standard battery.
The MobilePro 900 will be available Monday through several resellers, with a list price of $899.
