The curvy new Samsung Galaxy Note Edge smartphone, which features a dramatic screen that curves around the right front edge of the phone, giving users a bit more screen real estate, will be available for sale on Nov. 14.
The launch date for the new device, which features a bright, sharp 5.6-inch quad HD Super AMOLED screen and the all-new ability to display notifications on the curved part of the display, was announced by Samsung on Nov. 3. By moving on-screen controls for email, Internet, apps, notifications, news and more to the side of the device, users can have more of the main screen for other uses, according to Samsung. The scrollable Edge menu panel can be customized by users to display their favorite apps for quick access.
The Galaxy Note Edge shares many features with Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4, including a 16-megapixel rear-facing camera with 8x digital zoom and Optical Image Stabilization, a 3.7-megapixel front-facing camera with a wide-angle lens, an included S Pen for improved data input and handwriting recognition, and Samsung’s Multi Window feature that lets users interact with multiple apps simultaneously, according to the company. The new Note Edge will be available in Charcoal Black or Frost White.
The smartphone also features a 2.7GHz quad-core processor, 3GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage (expandable to 128GB via a micro SD slot) and a removable 3,000-mAh Li-on battery along with Adaptive Fast Charging that charges the phone to 50 percent in about 30 minutes. The phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat.
AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular will all carry the new phone, which will also be available at Samsung Experience Shops inside Best Buy stores.
AT&T says it will have the new Galaxy Note Edge on display in select AT&T stores starting Nov. 7, according to an announcement by the company. Customers will be able to purchase the device with no money down on an AT&T Next plan for 18 months at $39.42 per month, or on an AT&T Next 12-month plan for $47.30 per month. The smartphone is also available for $399.99 with a two-year agreement or for $945.99 without a contract.
Sprint will offer the phones through the Sprint Easy Pay plan for no money down and 24 monthly payments of $35 for a total of $840, plus the cost of a cellular service and data plan, according to a Nov. 3 announcement. Customers can choose the Sprint Family Share Pack plans or the Sprint $60 Unlimited Plan, which offers unlimited talk, text and data for $60 a month.
T-Mobile customers will be able to get a Galaxy Note Edge starting Nov. 14 for no money down and $36.25 per month for 24 months, plus a cellular service plan, according to a Nov. 3 announcement. Customers can also pre-register online to be notified when the Galaxy Note Edge becomes available to order.
Verizon has not yet released details and pricing for the phone for its customers but has set up a Web page where interested customers can sign up for more information when it becomes available.
U.S. Cellular has also not yet announced details on pricing and availability for the device.
Samsung’s Galaxy Note 4 phablet, which shares much of its technology with the new Galaxy Note Edge, went on sale in mid-October.
