Symbol Technologies this week will launch a low-end, ruggedized handheld for small and midsize businesses.
The MC1000, a slimmed-down version of Symbols midrange MC3000 and high-end MC9000, is geared for businesses that perform basic data entry and bar-code scanning but that dont require the higher-end features of other ruggedized handhelds.
Like Symbols other ruggedized handhelds, the MC1000 can endure multiple drops onto concrete and is sealed against water and dust. It weighs about 7 ounces and has a 240-by-240-pixel monochrome display.
The handheld is based on Microsofts Windows CE .Net 4.2 platform and has an Intel Xscale 312MHz processor. It has 32MB of RAM and 32MB of ROM and includes an SD (secure digital) slot for memory expansion or wireless connectivity. The MC1000 does not include built-in wireless connectivity. It is priced at $695.
