The WiMax Forum this week unveiled a schedule that calls for releasing their first 802.16a-complaint systems by the end of the year. Engineers last week finished work on revision D of .16a. Chip makers said the spec is now stable enough to finish the designs for first-generation chips. About five chip makers including Fujitsu and Intel Corp. are currently planning first-generation WiMax chips.
