Mobile-device-management solution specialist Zenprise announced the release of MobileManager 7.0, the latest version of its on-premise and cloud-based MDM platform aimed at small and midsize businesses implementing bring your own device, or BYOD, initiatives. The latest edition now includes geo-fencing, which enables companies to track devices via GPS, and offers configurable dashboards that allow administrators to take one-click actions on devices such as track, notify and enroll.
Geo-fencing also allows IT managers to define an approved area for the device and specify the actions to be taken if the device leaves that perimeter, which can be useful in environments like hospitals where devices containing sensitive or confidential medical data need to be tracked. In the case of theft or other mishandling, the platform allows all corporate-owned information to be wiped from the device in order to protect the data stored on the device.
Other features include the ability to configure device security, such as encryption of data at rest and passcodes; block or allow unauthorized or noncompliant devices from corporate network; selectively wipe devices, removing business apps and data while leaving personal data intact; and remotely locate and track devices. Zenprise also provides remote support and troubleshooting features, including support-to-device voice over IP and chat.
“Zenprise’s MDM solution enables me to confidently support a high-demand BYOD program while securely protecting corporate data and intellectual property,” Terry West, senior vice president and CIO of Performance Food Group, said in a prepared statement. “But beyond the BYOD use case, with Zenprise technology we are also exploring ways to enable a truly mobile workforce and improve the customer experience. This translates into an increased ROI for our mobile initiatives.”
Version 7.0 also provides integration with Samsung Security, Accessibility, Flexibility and Efficiency (SAFE) devices, which let businesses turn tablets and smartphones into purpose-built mobile devices with strict access configurations and the ability to ensure that applications unrelated to the device’s specific use are locked down. Other features include secure integration with Microsoft SharePoint and Office365, and enhancements to its mobile data loss prevention (DLP) solution for Apple iOS devices, which now enables users to annotate documents in the secure mobile content container provided by Zenprise.
“The advanced MDM features we are introducing in Zenprise MobileManager 7.0 are the building blocks in the realization of our future vision for MDM,” Amit Pandey, CEO of Zenprise, said in a company release. “Until now, the industry has been singularly focused on managing devices and, while that will always be the foundation of any enterprise mobile strategy, it’s the ability to secure applications and content on mobile devices that will give businesses a holistic approach to mobility.”
