The ZigBee wireless standard will dominate in-home machine-to-machine communications by 2008, according to market research firm West Technology Research Solutions.
ZigBee is a low cost and low power technology that links home appliances, like light switches, fire and smoke detectors, thermostats, appliances, video and audio remote controls, landscaping, and security systems. The technology uses the uses the IEEE 802.15.4 standard for short-distanced wireless networks and has a range of 30 to 225 feet.
