Brocade Communications Systems is looking to make application delivery for both enterprises and service providers more scalable, higher-performing and cheaper.

Brocade May 11 unveiled its ServerIron ADX Series application deliver controller platform. The series comes in three configurations: the ADX 1000 1U (1.75-inch) fixed form factor, the ADX 4000 4U chassis and the ADX 8000 8U chassis.

Guru Pangal, vice president of product development for Brocade, said the ServerIron ADX Series was designed for the evolving dynamic data center.

“It is designed to help both service providers and enterprises maximize the value of their IT investments and benefit from industry-leading performance per price, per rack unit and per watt,” Pangal said in a statement.

The move comes as enterprises and service providers, feeling the pressure from business demands and the global recession, are looking to reduce their capital and operating costs while increasing performance.

The new products offer high-density 1 Gigabit Ethernet and 10G Ethernet capabilities, and twice the density of competitors, with 70G bps of Layer 4 and 7 application throughput, according to Brocade officials.

It also offers twice the 10G Ethernet port density of competing products, they said.

In addition, Brocade’s Content Switching framework lets IT administrators create rules, policies and configurations to enable application switching and content transformation on enterprise applications from such vendors as IBM, Microsoft, Oracle and SAP.

The chassis models also offer interchangeable modules with up to 16 ports of 10G-bps fiber, and a high-density, multicore and multichip application processing plane for higher core density, performance improvements and core-based virtualization.

Brocade’s ServerIron ADX Series will roll out in the third quarter, with pricing starting at $21,995.
